MARIA REGINA ANGELORUM CRUCI DUM SPIRO FIDO<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\r\n

It is said that this was the crest of the Ward family and to it Mary Ward added the two hearts.\u00a0 It is still to be seen in Ripon Cathedral \u2013 the area of Yorkshire where the Ward family lived.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

There are four symbols <\/strong><\/span>within the crest:-<\/span><\/p>\r\n

The <\/span>CROSS\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/span>in the top left corner as you look at the crest symbolises her and our faith in Christ our leader who won salvation for all by his death on the cross and his resurrection.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

The <\/span>ANCHOR<\/span><\/strong><\/span> at the bottom right hand corner is the symbol of HOPE, which should inspire us, as it inspired Mary Ward, to meet the challenges of our daily life in a firm conviction that Christ will be faithful to us irrespective of any failures on our part to continue on our path and trust in Him until the end.\u00a0 This virtue anchors our life in our Lord\u2019s loving care and fidelity to each and all.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

On the two other corners are the <\/span>HEARTS OF JESUS AND MARY<\/strong><\/span><\/span>, added to the family crest.\u00a0 Our Lord\u2019s side was pierced on the cross and Simeon prophesied that Our Lady\u2019s heart would be pierced by the sword of sorrow so that she might share with the children whom Our Lord entrusted to her, \u201cYour own soul a sword shall pierce so that the thoughts and needs of many may be shared with you.\u201d\u00a0 These words are being fulfilled today by the thousands of people of all ages and all nations who have recourse to her at her various shrines.\u00a0 These symbols represent LOVE.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

\r\n<\/span><\/p>\r\n

The words at the top of the crest look towards Mary, the mother of God:-<\/span><\/em><\/p>\r\n

\u201cMaria Regina Angelorum\u201d – \u201cMary, Queen of the Angels\u201d <\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\r\n

MARIA <\/span><\/strong>– MARY<\/span><\/span><\/span> \u2013 Our Lady, Mother of our Lord.\u00a0 Her qualities shone out \u2013<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Firstly, her willing co-operation in what God made know to her.\u00a0 This wish was made known through his messenger, the Angel Gabriel.\u00a0 The angel said, \u201c…the Lord is with you.\u00a0 You are to bear a son and you must name him Jesus.\u00a0 He will be called the son of the Most High and he will rule over the House of Jacob for ever.\u00a0 His reign will have no end.\u00a0 The Holy Spirit will come upon you and the child will be holy and called Son of God.\u201d\u00a0 Mary answered, \u201cI am the handmaid of the Lord.\u00a0 Let what you have said be done to me.\u201d\u00a0 The angel then left her. <\/span><\/p>\r\n

Secondly, her loving concern for other people through the presence of Christ in her womb and utter forgetfulness of self.\u00a0 Immediately after the angel left her, she set out on a long and dangerous journey on foot through the hills of Judea to visit her kinswoman Elizabeth who was awaiting the birth of her son, John the Baptist and Mary lived there, helping in the house for three months. <\/span><\/p>\r\n

REGINA<\/span><\/strong> – QUEEN<\/span> \u2013 A queen is responsible for the interests of her people within her kingdom.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

ANGELORUM<\/strong><\/span> \u2013 OF ALL THE ANGELS<\/span> \u2013 An angel is one sent by God as a messenger.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

\r\n<\/span><\/p>\r\n

The words at the stem of the crest bring all the rest to a conclusion:-<\/span><\/p>\r\n
